Jersey is a small dairy breed known for rich milk and good fertility. For a calf buyer it is a niche, and an honest description matters more here than for most breeds: Jersey heifers and Jersey bull calves are very different propositions.
Type and origin
The breed comes from the island of Jersey in the Channel Islands. Animals are fawn to dark brown, small, fine-boned and active, with a typically dished face. They are efficient cows with milk that has high fat and protein content, and they calve easily, which suits crossbreeding with larger beef bulls.
Typical use
Heifer calves are bought as dairy replacements by farms with a Jersey or Jersey-cross herd, often for cheese or niche milk production. Bull calves of small dairy breeds are a weaker fit for conventional beef fattening because of their light frame, so lots that include them need to be priced and described honestly. Jersey-sired calves out of other dairy cows are a different matter: they are valued for easy calving rather than for carcass.
What we buy
We look mainly at Jersey and Jersey-cross heifer calves for dairy replacement. Tell us up front if the lot includes bull calves; we will say honestly whether it fits any of our buyers. Our weight bands are 52–90 kg for dairy calves and 110–150 kg for starter calves. Weaned or stocker calves (220–350 kg) are bought for beef breeds only, so a weaned dairy-breed lot is not what we are looking for. Put exact weights, ages and ear-tag numbers in your offer.
Where the calves come from
Jersey herds exist in Ireland, the Netherlands and Germany among the countries on our list. See Ireland, the Netherlands and Germany.
Offering a Jersey lot
The most useful first message is short and complete: country and region, breed and cross, number of head, sex split, age and weight range, feeding and health history, ear-tag numbers, the documents available and the week you can load. We buy for rearing and finishing farms in Poland, and we start with a trial lot where a new supplier is involved. Payment and trial terms are agreed with each supplier. Read how we buy for price basis, transport and minimum lots, then send your offer through the supplier form or the partner page. You can also write to biuro@eurocieleta.pl or call +48 691 900 728.
