Montbéliarde Calves from France

Montbéliarde is a French dairy breed with a stronger beef frame than Holstein, which makes its calves a practical middle option. Buyers who want a dairy heifer or a bull calf with decent muscling often look at this breed.

Type and origin

The breed comes from the Franche-Comté region of eastern France, where its milk is used for well-known cheeses. Animals are red-and-white with a white head, solid in build and strong in the legs. The Montbéliarde is regarded as a dairy breed with good conformation, and bull calves carry more flesh than the typical black-and-white dairy calf.

Typical use

Heifers are raised as dairy replacements by farms that value fertility, longevity and milk components. Bull calves are fattened, and because the frame is better than Holstein, they are often sold as a stronger alternative in the dairy-bull segment. The breed is also used in crossbreeding. Read Holstein Friesian for the usual comparison.

What we buy

We buy Montbéliarde and Montbéliarde-cross heifer calves and bull calves. Say which are purebred and which are crossed, and give the age and weight of each group. Papers or herd-book information, if available, make the lot easier to place. Our weight bands are 52–90 kg for dairy calves and 110–150 kg for starter calves. Weaned or stocker calves (220–350 kg) are bought for beef breeds only, so a weaned dairy-breed lot is not what we are looking for. Put exact weights, ages and ear-tag numbers in your offer.

Where the calves come from

Supply is concentrated in eastern France. See our French supplier page and selling French calves to Poland for how French lots reach Poland.

Offering a Montbéliarde lot

The most useful first message is short and complete: country and region, breed and cross, number of head, sex split, age and weight range, feeding and health history, ear-tag numbers, the documents available and the week you can load. We buy for rearing and finishing farms in Poland, and we start with a trial lot where a new supplier is involved. Payment and trial terms are agreed with each supplier. Read how we buy for price basis, transport and minimum lots, then send your offer through the supplier form or the partner page. You can also write to biuro@eurocieleta.pl or call +48 691 900 728.
