Aberdeen Angus is a smaller, earlier-maturing beef breed than the continental types, and it has become a standard sire for beef-from-dairy calves. Buyers ask for Angus because the animals are easy to handle and finish steadily on forage-based rations.
Type and origin
The breed comes from north-east Scotland. Animals are usually black, sometimes red, and naturally polled, which removes dehorning work. Angus cattle are medium-framed and fleshy, with a reputation for quiet temperament and for fat cover that develops early. They are not an extreme-muscle breed; the appeal is consistency, ease and meat quality rather than the largest possible carcass.
Typical use
Purebred Angus calves are bought for rearing and finishing, and many go into programmes that value easy handling. The larger share of the trade, however, is Angus-sired calves out of dairy cows: crossbred animals that give a dairy-farm calf a clear beef purpose. Heifers can also be kept as suckler cows. For how crosses are priced and described, see our page on beef-dairy crossbreeds.
What we buy
We buy Angus and Angus-cross calves for rearing and fattening, in the weight bands below. Describe the dam breed, because an Angus × Holstein calf and a purebred Angus calf are not interchangeable in a feeding plan. Mention colour and horn status if they differ within the lot, and send ear-tag numbers with the offer. Our weight bands are 52–90 kg for dairy calves, 110–150 kg for starter calves and 220–350 kg for weaned or stocker calves, the last for beef breeds only. Put exact weights, ages and ear-tag numbers in your offer.
Where the calves come from
Angus-sired calves are widely available from dairy herds in Ireland, and also appear in lots from the Netherlands, Germany and France. See our supplier pages for Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany and France. For the Irish side of the trade, read Irish calves to Poland.
Offering a Aberdeen Angus lot
The most useful first message is short and complete: country and region, breed and cross, number of head, sex split, age and weight range, feeding and health history, ear-tag numbers, the documents available and the week you can load. We buy for rearing and finishing farms in Poland, and we start with a trial lot where a new supplier is involved. Payment and trial terms are agreed with each supplier. Read how we buy for price basis, transport and minimum lots, then send your offer through the supplier form or the partner page. You can also write to biuro@eurocieleta.pl or call +48 691 900 728.
