Piemontese is an Italian beef breed known for lean, tender meat and a muscular build. It is a small segment of the calf market, and we treat Piemontese offers individually.
Type and origin
The breed comes from Piedmont in north-west Italy. Calves are born fawn and turn light grey to white as they age, with darker marking around the eyes, ears and muzzle. Many animals show strong muscling in the hindquarters, which is why the breed is used as a sire as well as in pure lines. Because of this muscling, handling at calving and good management are important.
Typical use
Calves are reared for lean beef production, and Piemontese-sired crosses are used by farms that want carcass quality from a smaller frame than the large continental breeds. The meat is lean, so finishing programmes tend to focus on a balanced ration rather than on fat cover.
What we buy
We consider Piemontese and Piemontese-cross calves for rearing and finishing. Because supply is limited, tell us your lot size, the sire and dam breed, and the age and weight of the calves before sending anything. We will say whether it is something we can place. Our weight bands are 52–90 kg for dairy calves, 110–150 kg for starter calves and 220–350 kg for weaned or stocker calves, the last for beef breeds only. Put exact weights, ages and ear-tag numbers in your offer.
Where the calves come from
The breed is based in Italy, and Piemontese-cross calves can come from other supplier countries on our list. Contact us with your location and what you can offer; see the Germany and France supplier pages for how we organise a market.
Offering a Piemontese lot
The most useful first message is short and complete: country and region, breed and cross, number of head, sex split, age and weight range, feeding and health history, ear-tag numbers, the documents available and the week you can load. We buy for rearing and finishing farms in Poland, and we start with a trial lot where a new supplier is involved. Payment and trial terms are agreed with each supplier. Read how we buy for price basis, transport and minimum lots, then send your offer through the supplier form or the partner page. You can also write to biuro@eurocieleta.pl or call +48 691 900 728.
